Connect Folderit to Make
Use the Folderit DMS app for Make to connect document operations with other applications. This guide explains how to create a connection and configure three shared templates: Slack notifications, a Google Sheets file register, and Gmail attachment capture.
Before you begin
You need a Folderit account with API access, a Make account with available credits, and permission to use the folders and files involved. Confirm API availability for your Folderit subscription. The Slack and Google templates also need connections to those services in your own Make organization.
Create your Folderit connection
- Sign in to Folderit as the primary user and open the API credentials page. Generate or retrieve your Client ID and Client Secret.
- In Make, add a module from the public Folderit DMS app with the Verified label. Choose Create a connection and give it a name that identifies the Folderit account.
- Enter Client ID and Client Secret. For Account UID or Name, use the account UID where possible, or its exact unique name. The API client must have access to that account.
- Save the connection. Run List Sections and confirm that the results belong to the expected account.
The Client ID is an API identifier, not your login email. The connector manages its authentication tokens; you do not need to paste a bearer token or configure a redirect URI. Keep the client secret out of screenshots, shared templates and support attachments.
Choose a template
Open a template below, select your own connections, and replace its source and destination prompts during guided setup. Keep the resulting scenario inactive until you have tested it.
Notify a Slack channel about new Folderit files
This template polls one Folderit folder and sends the filename and File UID to Slack. Document contents remain in Folderit.
- Select your Folderit connection and the folder to watch.
- Select a Slack connection and replace the channel prompt with your destination channel ID. Ensure the Make app can post there; invite it to a private channel if required.
- Choose From now on if you want future arrivals only, then add a clearly marked test file and run the scenario once.
- Check that Slack shows the correct filename and File UID.

Log new Folderit files in Google Sheets
This template appends a row for each newly detected file. Create a worksheet with these headers in columns A through E, keeping this exact order:
| Column | Header | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | file_uid |
The Folderit File UID |
| B | file_name |
The filename |
| C | folder_uid |
The containing folder UID |
| D | detected_at_utc |
When Make logged the file, in UTC |
| E | source |
Folderit |
- Select the Folderit connection and source folder.
- Select your Google Sheets connection, enter your spreadsheet ID, and enter the worksheet name. The spreadsheet ID is the part between
/d/and the next slash in its Google Sheets URL. - Choose the starting point, add a test file and run the scenario once. Confirm that one row appears in the five expected columns.
The template writes raw values so filenames remain text. It is an append-only register of new arrivals, not a replacement for Folderit’s audit trail. It does not synchronize later edits, moves or deletions.

Save selected Gmail attachments to Folderit
This template finds matching Gmail messages, retrieves their attachments and uploads each attachment to your chosen Folderit folder. Use a Google account with an active Gmail mailbox.
- Select your Gmail connection for both the email watcher and attachment retrieval steps.
- Keep the default search
has:attachment label:Folderitif you use a Gmail label named Folderit. Otherwise replace it with your own narrow query. Check the starting point so the first run includes only messages you intend to process. - Select your Folderit connection and enter the destination folder UID. Attachment filenames and binary data are mapped automatically.
- Test with a clearly marked message and a harmless attachment. Confirm that the file reaches the intended folder and opens correctly.
Inline media are excluded. The template does not move, delete or mark the source messages as read.

Activate and maintain the scenario
After a successful test, select a schedule suitable for your Make plan and turn on the scenario. The Folderit new-file watcher uses scheduled polling rather than an instant webhook. It checks one selected folder for newly added files.
Review failed executions before retrying. Resetting a watcher, replaying an execution or retrying an ambiguous write can create another Slack message, spreadsheet row or uploaded file. Check the destination first. Effective file-size limits depend on Folderit, the Make plan and every other service used in the scenario.
Troubleshooting
The connection cannot find the account
Check API access, credentials and the accounts available to the API client. Use the account UID if names are ambiguous, then test with List Sections.
The watcher does not find a file
Check the folder, starting point, schedule, output limit and available credits. Files added before the saved checkpoint may be excluded. An empty poll does not need to call the destination service.
Slack reports restricted_action
This error can mean that Slack’s posting rules prevent the Make app from sending a message. Open the destination channel’s Settings and check Posting permissions. If posting is restricted to admins, ask a Slack administrator to allow the Make app to post in that channel, where your workspace policy permits. Adding the app to a channel alone may not grant posting permission. See Slack’s channel posting permissions guide. After fixing access, check whether the message already arrived before replaying a failed execution, since a replay can send a duplicate.
Gmail reports Mail service not enabled
A Google account can access Sheets without having a Gmail mailbox. Connect an account with Gmail enabled for both Gmail steps.
You want to build a different document workflow
The connector also supports file and folder actions, folder metadata settings, workflows, reminders and authenticated API calls. Add a Reminder uses the primary connection and accepts an optional Recipient Email. Start a Workflow requires an available active method; Review requires a custom method named Review. Consult the Folderit API reference for custom calls, or contact Folderit for help with the account requirements.
