How can we help?

Manage External Links

You can save an external web link as an item in Folderit. The link can open either in a new browser tab or inside Folderit in an embedded preview window, depending on the option you select.

External links can be organized, shared, and managed like other resources in Folderit.

Add an external link

Click the arrow next to the Upload button and select Add a link.

Add a link option in the Folderit Upload menu
Open the Upload menu and select Add a link.

In the dialog window, complete the following fields:

  1. Name — enter the name that will appear in the file and folder list.
  2. URL — enter the full web address, including https://.
  3. Open behavior — choose whether the link opens in a new browser tab or inside Folderit in an embedded iFrame window.

Enter the link name and URL, then choose how the link should open.

What can you link to?

You can add links to forms, documents, dashboards, reports, videos, websites, or other external content.

Whether a page can be displayed inside Folderit depends on the external website. Some websites block iFrame embedding for security reasons. If an embedded preview does not work, set the link to open in a new browser tab instead.

Embedding a YouTube video

To display a YouTube video inside Folderit, use the video’s embed URL rather than the regular watch-page URL.

A typical YouTube embed URL looks like this:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID

You can add ?autoplay=1 to the end of the embed URL to request automatic playback. Browser settings may still prevent autoplay, especially when the video includes sound.
